National Register and Transport Portal

National Register and Transport Portal

The national register and the national transport portal were launched on 20th July, 2011 to facilitate online citizen centric services. The national register would also facilitate detection of fake driving licences and tracking of stolen vehicles. The national register has vehicle data flowing from 95% Regional Transport Offices in the country.

The projects relating to ‘Vahan’ and ‘Sarathi’ were launched by this Ministry in 2002 in the 10th Five Year Plan. The software ‘Vahan’ and ‘Sarathi’ are to be used by the State Governments for issuing registration certificates of motor vehicles and driving licences in smart card mode

Work pertaining to computerisation and integration of transport authorities has been completed to the extent of 95%. A few States have not completed the State wise deployment. Completion of the project would depend on the initiatives taken by the States.

This information was given by the Minister of State of Road Transport and Highways, Dr. Tushar A Chaudhary in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
