State –wise breakup of the number of persons killed due to intake of alcohol/drugs by drivers during the years 2007-2009 is given below.  There is no proposal pending with the Government to amend the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860 for providing capital punishment for drunken driving deeming it as murder.
