IAF needs National Highways for emergency landings. Indian Road Fatalities do not come down.

Road Safety Issues
As per the Road Accidents in India 2014, published by Transport Research Wing of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, 1,39,671 persons were killed in road accidents.

As per Global Status Report 2015 on Road Safety of World Health Organization (WHO), globally, road traffic crashes are a leading cause of death among young people, and the main cause of death among those aged 15–29 years.

Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has been impressing from time to time to Road Authorities to comply with Road Safety norms during design, construction and operation of roads including National Highways.

This information was given by Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Shri Pon. Radhakrishnan in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
