Financial assistance from National Sports Development Fund to Ms Krishna Poonia for training

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has approved financial assistance for 80 days training to Ms Krishna Poonia under Mr. Mac Wilkins at Olympic Training Center, Chula Vista, California, USA. Financial assistance from the National Sports Development to the tune of USD 14000 per month for two months’ training has been sanctioned. This sanction is against the projected training expenses of USD 19300 per month (including USD 3000 per month as coaching fee), as per the invoice, plus air travel, visa, insurance etc. Courtesy:pib.nic.in

Revision of Scheme of National Welfare Fund of Sportspersons

The National Welfare Fund for sports persons was set up in March, 1982 with a view to assisting outstanding sportspersons of yesteryears, who had brought glory to the country in sports, now living in indigent circumstances,. The scheme was last reviewed and revised in July 2009. Scheme of National Welfare Fund of Sportspersons has been reviewed again and has been revised extensively. Under the revised Scheme, amount of annual income for being eligible for getting financial assistance from the Fund has been raised from the existing Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 4 lakh. Eastern Fleet Ships on deployment to South China and North West Pacific

In a demonstration of its operational reach and commitment to India’s ‘Act East’ policy, the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet, under the command of Rear Admiral SV Bhokare, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, sailed out today, 18 May 16 on a 2½ month long operational deployment to the South China and North West Pacific. During this overseas deployment, the ships of Eastern Fleet will make port calls at Cam Rahn Bay (Vietnam), Subic Bay (Philippines), Sasebo (Japan), Busan (South Korea), Vladivostok (Russia) and Port Klang (Malaysia). The depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-north eastwards at a speed of 10 kmph during past six hours, intensified into a deep depression and lay centred over west central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal at 0830 hrs IST of today, the 18th May, 2016 near latitude 13.3º N and longitude 81.0 ºE, about 170 km south-southeast of Nellore.
