The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, will meet the athletes who shall be representing India at the forthcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Shri Narendra Modi will meet the Olympic Contingent at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi on Monday. So far, around 100 athletes from 13 sports disciplines have qualified for the Rio Olympics. BRICS Working Group meeting on “Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency” tomorrow

India improves its ranking by 19 places on World Bank Logistics Performance Index

India has improved its ranking in the World Bank Group's bi-annual "Logistics Performance Index 2016", jumping from 54th in 2014 to 35th in 2016. This was announced by the World Bank Group in its recent launch of the report. In the latest ranking India has gone past countries like New Zealand, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Iceland, Latvia and Indonesia who were ahead of it in the index. With a third consecutive successful test-firing today, the Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) air defence system has achieved a Hat-Trick. The missile was launched at 1020 hrs from the test range of ITR, Chandipur. The objective of today’s mission was for maximum range and high maneuvering target. The missile guided by armoured seeker system hit the last minute maneuvering target. With this launch, MRSAM system has proved the air defence capability for three different boundary envelopes of the target. The Government has decided that the issue of appointment letters need not be withheld pending the verification of character and antecedents of the successful candidates. The appointing authorities will issue provisional appointment letters after obtaining the attestation form and self declaration from the candidate. An official level meeting between India and Cyprus took place in New Delhi on 28 and 29 June, 2016, to finalize the new India Cyprus Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement, wherein all pending issues, including taxation of capital gains, were discussed, and in-principle agreement was reached on all pending issues. Storage status of 91 major reservoirs of the country as on June 30, 2016

The water storage available in 91 major reservoirs of the country for the week ending on June 30, 2016 was 23.94 BCM which is 15% of total storage capacity of these reservoirs. This was 48% of the storage of corresponding period of last year and 70% of storage of average of last ten years. The total storage capacity of these 91 reservoirs is 157.799 BCM which is about 62% of the total storage capacity of 253.388 BCM which is estimated to have been created in the country. 37 Reservoirs out of these 91 have hydropower benefit with installed capacity of more than 60 MW. *REGION WISE ... more »
